Yes Madam President

One of my students seemed to enjoy going into his dream world where imaginary characters were having a battle in space.

During one such moment, I asked him to line up for recess…. But he appeared to not pay attention. I raised my voice and said to him ‘Check your schedule…. Its time for recess’.

He replied – ‘Can you buy a chocolate bun for me. I don’t want to come to the café.’

I wanted him to be a part of the group and insisted that he follow teacher’s instructions to line up.

He replied – ‘So you are the leader?’
I answered- ‘Yes I am! You need to follow teacher’s instructions!. ‘

He twisted his face and asked me in a cheeky voice – ‘So you are President of the United States!’

Lipstick Matters

Florence shared this cute anecdote with me.

She was teaching English and discussing common Metaphors eg: ‘As white as …….. milk,   As black as …….night’

She was amused when one of her students responded to ‘As red as…. ………… your lipstick’.

Must Share OK?

Bu Jeng loves to write on the whiteboard. Originally this started with writing the Day and Date on the board, but progressed to finding any opportunity to doodle on the whiteboard.

After several warnings, I took the marker from him and drew a rectangle on the board and wrote: ONLY TEACHERS CAN WRITE ON THE WHITEBOARD.

Bu Jeng got quite upset and walked back to his seat, bent his head and said “Ms. Geeta you must share your white board.

I realized – ‘Yes I was really being selfish!’

You Are Welcome

Teacher was handing out books to students when Joshua said- ‘Thank you Ms. Yati’ .
Ms Yati complimented Joshua –“You said‘thank you very nicely. Good Job!â€
Gabriel overheard this comment and pointed his finger at teacher and said, “ Now when Joshua says Thank you to you, you need to say ‘you are welcome’.â€

I Need Help!

Waiting at assembly time is a time when some students take their newspapers and read their favourite column …‘The Little Red Dot’. It has interesting articles on endangered species and extinct animals.

After Term 1, I realized that one of my students enjoyed science related articles. We both shared this passion of reading articles on the last page of the paper. If I read it before him, I would share it with him and if he had the page open, I would read it to him.

One day I was talking with the other boys, when he shouted out –‘I need help! I need help! ‘ I walked to him to sort out his problem.
He looked up and commented at one article in the paper- ‘The Dodo Bird is extinct!’
